La relance d'une politique européenne de sécurité commune, ce qu'on appelle couramment "'Europe de la Défense", est certainement l'une des initiatives les plus importantes pour l'avenir de l'Union. Les événements internationaux du début de l'année 2003 mettent en évidence les difficultés que rencontrent les Etats d'Europe à partager les attributs fondamentaux de leur souveraineté, qu'il s'agisse de la politique étrangère ou de la politique de défense, qui sont intimement liées.

Et pourtant,chacun souhaite avancer parce que la nécessité en est devenue plus évidente. Les aspects industriels de "l'Europe de la défense" ne sont pas les plus négligeables. Il y a même urgence à agir pour préserver et développer
des industries de défense en Europe.

Le présent ouvrage brosse un tableau très complet des évolutions récentes du secteur dans les différents pays
de l'Union. Il esquisse quelques perspectives de coopération qui ne manqueront pas d'être au coeur des débats des mois à venir.

Un dossier d'actualité, à lire pour mieux comprendre la situation présente et tenter d'en faire un sujet d'avenir.
