Women and Europe
Women are concerned about their future and about what Europe can do for them in a frightening globalised world.
Today they are still less attracted by Europe than men. Maybe this is because Europe has still not acquired all
of the competences, which, in their opinion, it should have.
In order to gain a better understanding of how women in Europe feel, the Robert Schuman Foundation and the
association
Femmes, Débat et Société
, with the support of the
European Commission, launched as part of
the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union, a communication project entitled « Women for Europe ».
This project is laid out in
an interactive internet site dedicated to women in Europe.
On 2nd July the Robert Schuman Foundation and the association « Femmes, Débat et Société » organised under
the high patronage of the President of the French Republic, Nicolas Sarkozy, under the banner of the French Presidency,
an international conference "Women for Europe" at Sciences Po Paris.
The Robert Schuman Foundation created a web page especially dedicated to women and Europe. This page presents
the results of the conference on 2nd July (report, videos, photos), unique interviews the speakers, the project
"Women for Europe", the programme, two tables show how women are represented in the national parliaments and in
the governments of the 27 Member States of the European Union together with useful links on the subject.

The two summary tables
Europe is the leader amongst the five continents in terms of the number of women assuming responsibilities
at the head of their country.
The Foundation updates a table after each election or government reshuffle presenting the number of women
who have a seat in the national parliaments (national chamber – single or lower) as well as a table representing
the number of women in government (Ministers).
