Interview with Gunnar Lund, Ambassador for Sweden in France

New French ministry for food, agriculture and fisheries
In a note published in October 2008 by the Robert Schuman Foundation, Nicolas-Jean Brehon analysed the various reforms of the Common Agriculture Policy (CAP). As the threat of a food crises re-emerged, he suggested the food to be one of the major axis of the CAP's interventions. The name's change of the French ministry in charge of agriculture and fisheries, which is now also in charge of food, seems to be a step in the right direction...

European Parliament: a new group is created (ECR), the PES transforms into the PASD
On 23rd June changes occurred within the European Parliament. The 21 MEPs of the Italian Democratic Party joined the Party of European Socialists (PES). In exchange for this work together the PES accepts a change in name to become the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats (PASD) that now includes 183 MEPs. On 23rd June the chair of the British Conservative Party, David Cameron gave in to the recommendation made by his party with regard to the creation of an anti-federalist group in the European Parliament. This new group, the European Conservatives and Reformers (ECR) comprises at present 54 MEPs from only 7 countries including 26 Britons, 15 Poles and 9 Czechs. Sali Berisha is due to retain the post of Prime Minister of Albania
The Democratic Party (PDSH) led by the Prime Minister is said to have won the general elections on 28th June in Albania. According to an exit poll undertaken by Gani Boni Institute and broadcast by the television channel TV Klan, the Democratic Party is due to win 47.5% of the vote, ahead of its main rival, the Socialist Party ( PSSH) led by Edi Rama, that is said to have won 38.8% of the vote. The Socialist Movement for Integration (LSPI) of Ilir Meta is due to win 6.5% of the vote. Another exit poll by IPR Marketing credits Sali Berisha's Democratic Party with a 4 point lead over the PSSH. Finally a third poll by Zogby International also credits the Head of government's party with the lead in the general election. Turn out was high rising to over 60% in comparison with 56% during the previous elections on 3rd July 2005. The election took place without any major incident taking place.

General Elections in Bulgaria on 5th July 2009
4,295 candidates representing 14 political parties and four party coalitions are running in the general elections that will take place on 5th July next in Bulgaria. According to the most recent poll by Mediana, published in the daily Standart, the GERB is due to win 35.8% of the vote ahead of the Socialist Party 23.9%, the MDL 12.8%, Ataka 8.9%, the Order, Law and Justice Party 6%, the Blue Coalition 5.7% and Lider 3.9%.
